Musical expression in Teaching and Learning

The course enhances music teaching skills through creative, practical, and theoretical approaches.

The course focuses on developing the student’s pedagogical and didactic skills for teaching music within the school curriculum. It includes a variety of musical activities and forms of expressions using the body, voice, instruments, and other sound sources.

A key focus is on enhancing student’s own musical abilities to practice, create and understand music within the context of music education and to be able to justify and explain the pedagogical and didactic principles behind effective music teaching.

Central to the course are creative, aesthetic work and learning processes that encourage students to reflect on the knowledge and skills they gain through different forms of musical expression. The creative and aesthetic work includes improvisation, songwriting, composition, digital music production, arrangement and is supported by musical, technological, and creativity theory-based knowledge.

Through practical musical learning methods, students explore a wide range of creative music and learn how to organize, instruct and lead different types og musical activities. Students gain essential music leadership skills to lead activities such as group singing, vocal work, ensemble playing, rhythm games, dance, and dramatization in a variety of styles.

Special emphasis is placed on implementing teaching across both Danish and international students, including choir and extra-curricular musical activities.
