About the European First Year Experience Network (EFYE)

Supporting first-year experience of students

The EFYE Network & Conference aims to bring together people and ideas to support the first-year experience of students in higher education. These ideas are shared through various workshops ran by passionate professionals, as well as through friendly discussions between delegates.

While the conference has “European” in the name, EFYE brings together a diverse international community from all over the world. Each year, we have between 150 and 300 delegates attending from 16 (so far) different countries. This is a friendly conference, and we are keen to welcome delegates from new countries.

The conference is run by volunteers from the institutions and supported by a board of previous organisers. The conference aims to bring people and ideas on first-year experience together. Although each conference has its own theme, the conference remains an open and inclusive meeting place and breeding ground for innovative FYE practices, research collaborations, and potential cross-country development projects/funding bids.

The conference primarily uses English for workshops and communication, but one of the great pleasures of the event is hearing a variety of languages being used during the breaks and at the social events.

The network is both practice-focused and research-informed. We encourage the discussion of theory, research and evaluation, innovative practice, and emerging initiatives. We aim to be a conference where you take away great ideas that you can use back at your university.

The host for EFYE 2024 is University College Copenhagen (KP).
